Scott Moehring (it wasn’t scott it was Steven Volpe I think… im looking to find the guy – update may 24 2014) was playing behind Southsides Patio along the Niagara Blvd in the grass along with Alvin the owner of Happy Jacks Chinese Food Restaurant.

The bar tender from Southsides (she’s a sweetheart) came outside to find out what the guys were playing. Harry and George joined in and when Alvin left I gave it a go.

It did make my arm ache a bit afterwards (using muscles I don’t normally use). The Batons are very light in weight and you have to throw them a certain way and hit the baseline in the field Kubbs (blocks of wood).

There’s a strategy to it, and anyone who plays chess or goes bowling or even does Lawn Bowling will LOVE this game. I’d say the strategy part will appeal to any sports fan or anyone who plays golf. It’s an easy game to learn for all ages (children and seniors love to play this game too!)

Scott wants to start an international match competition here in Buffalo and Fort Erie (both sides of the border) and we told him we’ve been praying for “new Ideas and games” for our festivals, events and competition ideas here in Fort Erie.

This would and could take off and become a year round attraction, generating jobs, if we get a building or set location for people to come and play and compete.

In the future we could set up fee’s to come and play it or just sell the kits to groups or families to play.

i’ve sent an email to scott with my idea girl canada blog post showing how to play the game.

you can contact him too if you’re interested in helping set up this competition on an international level for tourists and for the locals.

I’ll bet our Hollywood visitors coming to #NIFF Niagara Film Fest in June 19 – 22, 2014 to the Niagara Region will find this amusing!

Maybe we can set this game up over at the Fort Erie Race Track on the grassy area for the families and kids to play while parents and other people they are travelling with enjoy the horse racing!

update may 24 2014

scott emailed me back!

he lives in ohio!

I got the wrong contact info, Ive emailed steven volpe found him on @buffalokubb he mentions playing a game with some people in fort erie,
so i’ve contacted him on facebook to connect with him and get some competitions started here in fort erie, ridgeway and crystal beach.

I’ve emailed patty mountain from the BIA in ridgeway about this game becoming a major tourist attraction for our area – including the Niagara region and eventually all over Canada, USA, and international game players!

here’s a video showing people playing the game.
