Miss M. Gardun,
Obituary, The Recorder, Gore Bay, April 16, 1931
Mr. W. Chisholm
The news of the death of Mr. W. Chisholm on April 4th last came as a shock to his many friends and acquaintances, he having passed away very suddenly on the morning of April 4th, following a seizure of but a few hours. His passing has removed from our midst an honoured and respected citizen and the deepest sympathy is expressed by all who knew him. The late Mr. Chisholm was born in the county of Bruce in 1859, going with his parents to reside at Michael’s Bay, Manitoulin Island some little time later. Some years later whilst still resident at Michael’s Bay he was united in wedlock to Miss M. Gardun, from thence moving with his wife to Providence Bay. In the year 1904 Mrs. Chisholm died, and in the year 1908 Mr. Chisholm was again married this time to Mrs. L. Clague who predeceased him on December 21st last. In 1913 Mr. Chisholm with his wife came to reside at Thessalon where they continued until date of decease.
He leaves to mourn his loss, five sons and two daughters, Mr. W. A. Chisholm, of Hornepayne, Ont.; Mr. H. W. Chisholm, of Wiarton, Ont.; Stanley, Fred and Harry, who were residing with their father at time of his death; Mrs. R. G. Ritching, of Gore Bay, Manitoulin, and Mrs. O. Dent, of Sault Ste. Marie.
The funeral was conducted from the Baptist Church, of which Mr. Chisholm was a member, on Monday at 2.30. A large number of relatives and friends having gathered to pay final tribute of respect to their former friend and neighbour. As tokens of esteem in which Mr. Chisholm was held were the beautiful floral expressions of a sympathetic respect that were of a generous contribution. – Thessalon Advocate.
